2. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data (Art. 15), to rectification (Art. 16), to erasure (Art. 17), to restriction of processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)). To exercise any of these rights, write to the address above.

3. Hosting and server log files
This website runs on a virtual server operated by STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. The servers are located in Germany. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place.
Each time a page is requested, the server automatically records log data: the requesting IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring URL, and browser and operating system information. This data is needed to deliver the site and to detect and defend against attacks. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
4. Cloudflare (CDN, security, images)
All traffic to this site is routed through the content delivery and security network of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Cloudflare processes your IP address in order to deliver pages quickly and to filter malicious requests. Images are served from Cloudflare’s image service (imagedelivery.net). Cloudflare also measures loading times (Real User Monitoring); this measurement works without cookies.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a fast, available and secure website). Data may be transferred to the USA; the transfer is safeguarded by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and Cloudflare’s certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
5. Cookies and consent management
Cookies that are technically necessary to operate the site are set on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. All other cookies and comparable technologies — in particular those used for statistics — are only used after you have given consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
We use the consent tool CookieYes (CookieYes Limited, Ireland) to obtain and document your choice. The tool stores your settings in a cookie and logs your consent together with an abbreviated IP address and a timestamp, so that we can demonstrate it as required by Art. 7(1) GDPR. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the fingerprint icon at the bottom left of every page.
6. Google Analytics
If you consent, we use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers to record how visitors use the site — for example which pages are opened, how long a visit lasts and which country a visit comes from. IP addresses are shortened before further processing.
Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You may withdraw it at any time via the consent banner, with effect for the future. Google may transfer data to Google LLC in the USA; the transfer is safeguarded by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and Google’s certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. 7. Zodiac calculator
To determine your Chinese zodiac sign, the calculator processes the date you enter (year, month, day) and the calendar type you select. The date is passed to our calculation service, which runs on Cloudflare Workers, and is used solely to compute and return the result. We do not store the dates entered, we do not link them to your person, and we do not use them to build profiles. No registration or account is required.

8. Fonts and icons
The typefaces used on this site are hosted on our own server. No connection to Google servers is established when you load a page. The icon set Font Awesome is partly loaded from the content delivery network bootstrapcdn.com (StackPath, LLC, USA); your IP address is transmitted in the process. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (consistent presentation of the site).
9. Comments
If you leave a comment, we store the name and email address you provide, the comment itself, your IP address and the time of submission. The IP address helps us to recognise spam. Comments are reviewed before publication and remain stored until you ask us to delete them. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) and (f) GDPR.
Where profile pictures are displayed next to comments, they are retrieved from the Gravatar service of Automattic Inc., USA. For this purpose a hash value of your email address is transmitted to Gravatar. Further information: automattic.com/privacy.
10. Contacting us
If you contact us by email, we process the data you send us in order to deal with your enquiry. We keep such correspondence for as long as it is needed for that purpose or as long as statutory retention periods require. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR.
11. Social media and sharing buttons
The sharing buttons below our articles and the links to our Instagram and YouTube profiles are plain links. They do not load any content from those networks and set no cookies while you read the page. A connection to the respective provider is only established once you actually click a button or link; from that point on, that provider’s privacy policy applies.
12. Retention and changes
We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as statutory retention periods require. Server log data is deleted or anonymised after a short period.
We may amend this policy so that it continues to reflect the services actually in use. The version published here is the one that applies.
